Actor Joaquin Phoenix has refused to address his controversial last-minute exit from Todd Haynes' untitled gay romance movie last month at the Venice press conference for Joker: Folie À Deux.

During the press conference, a reporter asked Phoenix to explain why he exited Haynes’ film just five days before shooting was set to begin in Mexico. According to Variety, Phoenix reportedly got “cold feet,” forcing the production-backed by Killer Films and MK2 Film- to cancel after they failed to find a replacement.When asked about his abrupt exit, Phoenix refused to provide a direct explanation, hinting that it wouldn’t be fair to present only his side of the story.
He also discussed the intense physical demands of preparing for his role as the Joker, who is notoriously scrawny.
