Electing a radically pro-climate Democrat government in the 2020 presidential election would effectively raise “the white flag to China” according to Qld Senator Matt Canavan.

Democratic candidate Joe Biden has outlined a $2 trillion climate plan charting the United States on an irreversible path to net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Mr Canavan said “I’m not applying to be Trump’s new campaign manager, but he’d be smart to just zero in on these Democratic policies”.

He pointed out swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan and Texas “would be smashed by net zero emissions” and the Democrat climate plan would end the Shale Gas Revolution which has driven the US economy, manufacturing and jobs in the last decade. “China’s not going to be signing up to any net zero emissions pledge any time soon,” he told Sky News host Chris Smith. Donald Trump “has stood up to the Chinese Communist Party and he can be trusted to continue to put America first”.

'Biden would win if US election was held today' | Sky News Australia'Biden would win if US election was held today' | Sky News AustraliaUS Studies Centre Non-Resident Fellow James Brown says “Joe Biden would end up being president” if the US election was held today. \n\nRecent polls have seen Democratic nominee Joe Biden take the lead ahead of President Donald Trump in the leadup up to the November election. \n\nMr Brown told Sky News the betting markets “clearly see that if the election was held today Joe Biden would win by some margin”. \n\n “There will be people that will support [Trump] in November no matter what because they’re worried Biden is going to destroy the economy by moving to the left… that he will be too focused on identity politics and political correctness - but [Trump] is starting to lose support amongst groups that did support him in 2016,” he said. \n\n“What’s changed? Well Biden is a more likeable candidate than Hillary Clinton was and also people have had the chance to see how the President performs.\n\n“There was hope that he would be able to achieve the unachievable in 2016 when he was elected, now they’ve seen the President often struggles to execute his policies and he’s a very unstable leader.” \n\nImage: AP

The bad news is Australia's unemployment figure 'is a fake number' | Sky News AustraliaThe bad news is Australia's unemployment figure 'is a fake number' | Sky News AustraliaPutting aside the 'fake number' reflecting Australia's unemployment figure, the nation is probably experiencing a rate closer to 20 per cent according to News Corp Business columnist Terry McCrann.\n\n'The bad news - and the truth as opposed to that fake number - is obviously the impact on work, and the impact on families obviously, across the economy across Australia, is much worse than that 7.4 per cent,' he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. \n\nOn Thursday it was announced Australia's unemployment rate has risen to 7.4 per cent in June, which is the highest since November 1998.\n\nThe Australian Bureau of Statistics said 992,000 Australians are now formally unemployed, with the underemployment figures expected to be much higher. \n\n'If you actually dig into the numbers, we've probably got something like 20 per cent, not 7 per cent, 20 per cent of the workforce, one in five workers either really unemployed or, not just statistically unemployed, or only have their job courtesy of JobKeeper,' he said. \n\n 'As soon as JobKeeper goes away, they would lose that job unless the underlying economy has picked up'. \n\n'That is devastating, we've never seen anything like that before'. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia \n\n

‘Australian sovereignty not on the China trade table’: Canavan | Sky News Australia‘Australian sovereignty not on the China trade table’: Canavan | Sky News AustraliaThe UK Huawei decision has justified the “strong leadership” of the Australian government which banned the Chinese company from Australian 5G networks years ago, according to Nationals Senator Matt Canavan.\n\n“Australia was the first to take action on Huawei even ahead of the United States,” he told Sky News host Chris Smith. \n\nMr Canavan said “we can all see the risks have increased since then and it was the right call to make”. \n\n“I never want to see an Australian government trade off our national security, our independence or sovereignty just so we can sell some more products”.\n\n“Of course, we’d love to do more trade with like-minded countries, but if those partners are seeking to have our sovereignty on the trade table if you like, as part of the business transaction, then that is a showstopper”. \n\n
