Former prime minister John Howard believes Scott Morrison has handled the 'incredibly difficult' bushfire crisis well, and that he still had the support of the 'quiet Australians' credited with his May election victory | ChrisBarrett_
Former prime minister John Howard believes Scott Morrison has handled the “very difficult” bushfire crisis well but urged him to work more closely with the states.
“I’m not a climate scientist or anything but it’s pretty obvious to me that the fuel loads, aggravated and intensified by the long drought, are the proximate cause of the spread of this disaster,” Mr Howard said. “He’s been on the case – he’s visited the bushfire areas. There’s a danger when people come under attack of a particular aspect of your handling of something that everything surrounding that can be over-analysed,” he said.
“Peter Beattie and I got on very well, I like Beattie; we disagreed on certain political issues but whenever anything like that came up we were able to work together very closely,” Mr Howard said.
