British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has praised Australia’s efforts in assisting Ukraine following a meeting with Anthony Albanese in Spain.
NATO leaders and allies have gathered for a three-day summit which is set to be dominated by discussions about Russia's invasion of Ukraine as well as China's growing international ambitions. After the pair shook hands and took photos, Mr Johnson expressed his gratitude for the support Australia has given to Ukraine.
Australia has given $285 million in military equipment and $65 million of humanitarian support to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February.“We are very proud that we are the largest non-NATO contributor,” he said. Mr Albanese finished the interaction by mentioning the important AUKUS security pact before saying he is hopeful that a trade agreement can be finalised with the EU.
