New restrictions are being enforced on an island off SA's western coast in an effort to protect the endangered sea lions that breed there.

Each state has a different name for them, in South Australia and Western Australia, they're called 'prohibited areas', in Queensland, 'restricted areas', and in Victoria, they're called 'reference areas'. They all vary in terms of the access they provide, the size, and how they are introduced, but they're all enforced for the same reason: to protect important parts of the environment.
South Australia's Jones Island was recently declared a prohibited area due to it being an important breeding ground for the endangered Australian sea lion.Rangers patrolling the conservation park will now issue fines to anyone found visiting Jones Island.
