Earlier this week, the men – aged between 22 and 36 — pleaded not guilty to several charges each, including the stabbing murder of Girum Mekonnen in Zillmere in 2020. On Wednesday, crown prosecutor Nathan Crane told the jury that on an afternoon in September that year, a group of people including Mr Mekonnen were socialising in a local park.Mr Crane told the jury it was the prosecution's case that the 12 defendants, after travelling from Ipswich, showed up armed with baseball bats, knives and machetes then "acted in unison" and "set upon" the group.
