Brisbane coach Kevin Walters will mull over personnel changes for next year, but his first task is working out why the club’s dire NRL season hit rock bottom in the 40-6 loss the Dolphins. The Broncos will almost certainly miss the top eight after self-destructing at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night in a game where their season was on the line. Can the coach explain it? “No I can’t. I will get to the bottom of it though,” Walters said.
The Broncos did lose key starters Tom Flegler and Herbie Farnworth to the Dolphins at the end of last season, along with second-rower Kurt Capewell to the Warriors, but Penrith have also bid farewell to key players after each of their three grand final wins. Due to their stellar history, the expectation is high at Brisbane. “There is pressure every week playing for the Broncos. Players have got to understand,” Walters said. “That is not part of who we are as a club or as a team.
