He was also inundated with hundreds of messages on Instagram, after posting a throwback photo of himself alongside Barr and former Sunrise co-host Melissa Doyle to announce he had"decided to hang up the boots" more than two decades later.

Blue Wiggle Anthony Field, radio host Brendan Jones and singer Johnny Ruffo were just some of the other notable names among the well-wishers. The rumour mill is already in overdrive as to who will replace the father-of-four in a lucrative role he was reportedly paid $800,000 a year.Olympian turned TV star Matt Shirvington, 44, is widely tipped to take the seat after he filled in at various times Koch was on holidays or absent.
