Despite celebrating a maiden doubles victory at the Australian Open, Nick Kyrgios will not play in next month’s tie against Hungary in Sydney.

Nick Kyrgios may have enjoyed a stunning run in the doubles at the Australian Open, but it was not enough to earn him a spot in Australia’s Davis Cup squad for next month’s clash against Hungary in Sydney.

The Australians beat Hungary 2-1 on hard courts in Turin, Italy, in November, and Hewitt is confident his team can again prevail. “Popyrin got an opportunity to play a big Davis Cup match in the finals last year. He has a lot of firepower out there, a lot of weapons as well, and certainly [is] an option for singles or doubles.

“I’m obviously stoked to get the call-up from Lleyton. It’s been a long time since I’ve played Davis Cup,” Kokkinakis, 25, said.
