Australia's "high quality coal" can help big emitters like China and India reduce their emissions, according to Labor frontbencher Joel Fitzgibbon.
The sector in Australia is decreasing, with 60 per cent of the nation's coal powered plants due to close within the next two decades. However the sector still creates 75,000 jobs in the Hunter region alone. Mr Fitzgibbon told Sky News Australia can take action on climate change but that doesn't mean the party should 'forsake' coal workers.
