Many US adaptations of foreign material tend to go the bigger-is-better route, which works both for and against Laid .and shocking — they obviously have a VFX budget that the ABC could only dream of. There’s also a lot more money for the soundtrack, which music supervisor Toko Nagata puts to very good use.But in other aspects, the all-singing, all-dancing show becomes grating very quickly.
Laid exists in a fantasy rom-com universe where everyone lives in lavish abodes with endless tech — unless you're Richie and a point is trying to be made about how sad your life is — and where a low-level party planner has the means to contact and hire Amanda Knox for an apology dinner .
