After four years as Lake County administrator, Gary Gibson announced his retirement effective at the end of his contract on February 16.
Gibson’s career in the public sector spans 34 years, with 28 of those years with in Lake County government.“It has been the greatest honor of my professional career to serve as Lake County administrator. I am profoundly grateful for the support, encouragement and friendships developed over the course of my career with Lake County,” Gibson said.
In 2019, Gibson came back from retirement to serve as interim county administrator while recruitment for a permanent administrator took place. After serving in the interim role for a few months, the County Board approved Gibson’s appointment as county administrator with a two-year contract that was renewed in February 2022.“My sincere thanks to Chair Hart and the Lake County Board, as well as my colleagues for their ongoing efforts to serve the Lake County community,” Gibson said.
During Gibson’s leadership, Lake County navigated through the COVID-19 pandemic, allocated more than $250 million in CARES Act and ARPA funds, secured funding for the Regional Operations and Communications facility and maintained the county’s triple-A rating from credit rating agencies, Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s.
“Gary, through his leadership, has played an integral part in the success of many projects and initiatives not only in his current role, but also in his previous positions in Lake County government,” Hart said. “I cannot say enough about how fortunate I have been, both personally and professionally, to benefit from Gary’s vast experience and expertise.”
