The Lancashire residents who'd live 14 years longer if they'd been born 180 miles away

It's 180 miles and about as far away from Blackpool as you can humanly get. A chocolate box village of stone cottages and leafy greens in the Somerset countryside - George Osborn lives there.

All of the above can expect to live to a grand old age of 92, but those living in Blackpool South will live to the age of 78. When LancsLive visited the Lancashire resort this week, locals didn't seem more resigned to their fate than shocked. Some even said it was to be expected. The data from Health Equals shows that postcode areas in Northern and Scottish cities have far lower life expectancies than more affluent parts of the South and more rural Northern regions.

"There are office jobs and so on in Blackpool, but not to the same extent that those jobs exist in the south. People don't really have the money or options to feed themselves well around Blackpool. He believes the lack of high wages in Blackpool is one of the contributing factors to why the life expectancy is so low. He said: "I've been told that the average wage in Blackpool is one of the lowest in the country. It's a very seasonal place, Blackpool. You're lucky if you can keep a job through the winter, especially if it's a role that relies on tourism.
