A 15-year-old boy went missing from North Avoca Beach on Sydney's Central Coast after being swept off a rock shelf. Emergency services are conducting an extensive search operation involving sea, air, and land teams.
A teenage boy is believed to have been swept away from a popular beach on Sydney's Central Coast, prompting a large-scale search. Emergency services conducted a sea and air search at about 3pm on Tuesday, after reports a 15-year-old boy had been swept off a rock shelf at North Avoca Beach. A desperate search for the boy is underway with New South Wales Police, NSW Ambulance, local surf lifesavers, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service working together to find him.
Authorities were forced to pause the search in the evening, given fading light and rough seas, but it is expected to resume soon after dawn on Wednesday. The Bureau of Meteorology had earlier issued a warning over hazardous surf conditions along the NSW Hunter, Sydney and Illawarra coasts. As authorities maintain hope of finding the teenager, Surf Lifesaving NSW chief executive Steve Pearce issued a plea for beachgoers to'think' before taking risks near the water. 'We're already seeing these major incidents come through, which are devastating for many families at this time of year,' he said. 'We want everyone to return to their families and to do that we plead with you to please think before you take risks.
