Las Vegas Raiders coach Josh McDaniels has been fired after just a year and a half in the job. The decision came after the team's loss to the Detroit Lions, and team owner Mark Davis stated that it was necessary for the Raiders to move forward. McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler were both hired before the start of the 2022-2023 season.

In a statement, Davis didn’t specify the reasoning behind the decision other than to say it’s what the Raiders “need to move forward” before wishing McDaniels and Ziegler “nothing but the best”.While there was plenty of external pressure on McDaniels after the Raiders’ disappointing 3-5 start to the season, the news comes as a bit of a shock given Davis not long ago put full faith in the coach to turn things around.
