BREAKING: A depraved sexual predator who murdered a law graduate in an attack of ‘almost unimaginable’ violence just days after he was released from prison has been jailed for life.

Jordan McSweeney pleaded guilty to the murder and sexual assault of Zara Aleena last month

Ms Aleena was minutes from home when McSweeney dragged her into a driveway on Cranbrook Road where she was kicked, stamped on, and sexually assaulted before being left for dead.supports HTML5 video She said McSweeney ‘had the advantage of strength and surprise’ but ‘in everything else, she was better than him’.

Mr Glasgow said: ‘He followed a number of different women and, given what happened to Zara Aleena, there can be no doubt that they were lucky to have escaped unharmed.McSweeney first set his sights on a woman on Forest Gate and followed her into a supermarket when she ducked inside to avoid him. The judge added of the escape: ‘It is no hyperbole to say that her actions that night saved her life.’supports HTML5 video

Shortly after, he began following Ms Aleena who crossed his path in what the judge called a ‘fatal coincidence’ while making her way home. ‘Finally, once satisfied that she would no longer be able to report him for what he had done, he walked away, taking her mobile telephone with him which he threw over a garden wall, thus ensuring that neither she nor anyone else who might find her could use the phone to call for help.

In all, he has 28 previous convictions for 69 separate offences including burglary, theft of a vehicle, criminal damage, assaulting police officers and assaulting members of the public while on bail.
