The LDV V80 van has reached the end of its road in Australia. Despite its long history and 20 years of production, the aging van has been discontinued due to its lack of safety features and the upcoming Australian Design Rule mandate for autonomous emergency braking.

The LDV V80 van has been discontinued in Australia , marking the end of its long run in the country. LDV Australia confirmed that production of the aging van ceased in China last year, leaving only limited stock available locally. The V80 , priced from $33,990 drive-away for the base model to $42,990 drive-away for the top-of-the-line variant, has been outsold by newer LDV models like the G10.

Its discontinuation comes just ahead of a new Australian Design Rule (ADR) requiring autonomous emergency braking (AEB) for all passenger cars, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles from March 1, 2025. Unlike the V80, LDV Australia states that its G10 van, launched in 2015, will meet the upcoming ADR 98/00 requirements, indicating it will be equipped with AEB. The V80's lack of AEB and any active safety features, compared to the newer Deliver 7 and Deliver 9 vans, is a significant drawback. Furthermore, the V80 only offers two airbags, while the Deliver 7 boasts dual front, side, and curtain airbags. The V80 lacks a current ANCAP safety rating, with its previous two-star result from 2013 expiring in January 2023. Introduced in 2014, the V80 marked LDV's entry into the Australian market. However, with its development commencing before SAIC Motor's acquisition of LDV, and first production in 2004, it predates even the outgoing Mitsubishi ASX (2010) and Mazda 6 (2012). Despite its age, the V80 enjoyed a respectable sales run in Australia, delivering 5060 units from its local launch to the end of 2024, including 112 examples of the short-lived V80 Bus. 2023 proved to be its best year with 596 deliveries. While it lagged behind the company's G10 van (2843 units), it outpaced the Mercedes-Benz Vito (399) and Peugeot Expert (320). The V80's history is a fascinating one, showcasing its longevity despite minimal changes over two decades. It was reportedly developed with Daewoo, which held a stake in LDV before its financial crisis. Following Daewoo's acquisition by General Motors, the vehicle and tooling were transferred to LDV. LDV was subsequently acquired by Russia's GAZ before China's SAIC eventually secured the intellectual property rights to the brand. Notably, LDV is known as Maxus in most markets, which was the original name of the V80 van. In Thailand, the V80 wears MG badging and was previously sold by Turkish firm Askam under the Fargo name, a former division of the old Chrysler Corporation
