Customers of Brisbane-based mortgage lender Firstmac have had their personal details exposed in a data breach, following a ransomware attack on a “limited part” of the company’s IT system.
A prominent non-bank home lender has been hacked by a third-party website and had the personal details of several existing and former customers exposed to the dark web.
“We are notifying all impacted individuals directly and providing steps that they can take to protect themselves from scams or phishing attempts, in line with our regulatory obligations.” Firstmac said it had engaged IDCARE, Australia’s national identity and cyber support service, to address customer concerns on a case-to-case basis and limit potential misuse of data.
Firstmac admitted on May 1 it had fallen victim to a “cyber incident” by a fraud entity, later to have been an attack by ransomware gang EMBARGO.
