A leaked dummy of the iPhone SE 4th Generation has surfaced, revealing key details about the upcoming budget-friendly iPhone. The dummy suggests the SE will be nearly identical in size to the current iPhone 16, retain the mute switch on the left side, and lack the new camera control button found on the iPhone 16 series. The device also showcases a notch at the top of the screen to accommodate the speaker, camera, and FaceID system, indicating the absence of a Home button.
As one of the biggest companies in the world, shipping more products than most consumer technology brands, Apple 's supply chain is notoriously hard to lock down. It's why, year after year, leaked samples of new products make their way outside the factories and 9News has obtained a 'dummy' mock-up of what appears to be the next iPhone. Instead, it's believed this model is a representation of the soon-to-be-announced iPhone SE 4th Generation.
Billed as an entry-level iPhone - the SE has famously been the most affordable iPhone in the Apple range, but unlike the premium iPhone models, it doesn't get a refresh every single year. Rumors have been strong of an imminent launch, so this dummy helps confirm that, as well as revealing some of the details of the next iPhone. iPhone SE 4th generation, if this model is to be believed, is almost identical in size to the current iPhone 16. It still has the toggle switch on the left-hand side to mute or unmute audio, and there's no obvious 'camera control' button - a new button which appeared on the iPhone 16 range at the end of last year. While this is not a working model, it's possible to just make out the upper part of the screen which shows a 'notch' inside the top of the screen to house the speaker, camera and FaceID system which is required given this new iPhone does not have the Apple 'Home' button. The Home button was the circle below the screen on devices like the iPhone and iPad for over a decade. Replaced on the iPhone X model with a full-screen and swipe controls, many people were clinging to the Home button out of habit, but now their next upgrade will most certainly not feature that Home button.Around the back there's a single camera on the likely iPhone SE 4th Generation, meaning no option for ultra-wide or zoomed photos, but expect some software smarts to ensure that that single camera is still remarkably powerful. We can't tell from a model what's inside the device, but it's almost certain to be powered by at least the Apple Silicon A17 Pro chip, to enable Apple Intelligence on the device - given the SE has a longer lifespan, it seems logical Apple would offer that on this model. When the last iPhone SE shipped it started in Australia at $719, and that was a fantastic price for those not interested in all the latest bells and whistles. However, the larger form factor and screen size makes it unlikely we'll see that price again with a price of $849 far more likely. No word from Apple on the launch date or release, but we expect it to be announced in late February or early March
