Hurricane Lee is set to make landfall near coastal New England and Canada this weekend. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and wind to the area.
Lee isn’t technically a hurricane, but it’s delivering hurricane-force winds, coastal flooding and heavy rainfall to parts of far northeast New England and adjacent maritime Canada. The storm, still packing winds of 80 mph and the equivalent of a Category 1, transitioned into a post-tropical storm Saturday morning as it approached eventual landfall in Nova Scotia.Tropical storm warnings still blanket the coastline from Westport, Mass., through the U.S.
While Lee’s greatest hazards are mainly limited to Canada at present, lingering rough surf and rip currents will remain dangerous for the next several days for beaches in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Strong winds were also buffeting coastal Maine, where 35,000 customers were without power, according to PowerOutage.us.
