Morrison’s ministries scandal valid but ‘fundamentally undermined’ responsible governmentMorrison’s ministries scandal valid but ‘fundamentally undermined’ responsible governmentThe Solicitor-General has found Scott Morrison did not break the law during the secret ministries scandal but the secrecy by the former prime minister “fundamentally undermined” the practice of responsible government. In the detailed report handed to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Dr Stephen Donaghue found Mr Morrison was “validly appointed” to the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources as he cleared Governor-General David Hurley of any wrongdoing. The Solicitor-General has also provided recommendations for how to prevent Mr Morrison's self-ministerial appointments from happening again. Mr Albanese announced his government would hold an inquiry into the saga after Cabinet determinations following the release of the Solicitor-General’s report. He also said on Tuesday that legislative changes were up for consideration. 'One of the things that we will need to consider is any future legislative change to make sure that that’s enshrined, to make sure that it’s not dependent upon the goodwill of the government of the day,” he said.

Europe ‘retired’ coal for renewables and now it ‘badly’ needs gasEurope ‘retired’ coal for renewables and now it ‘badly’ needs gasEurope is 'badly' in need of gas supply as most of its nations have retired too much of their baseload generation for renewable energy, Sky News host Chris Kenny says. Mr Kenny acknowledged the impact the Eastern conflict is having on the supply chain. 'There's no doubt the Ukraine war and the impact on Russian gas supplies and prices is a factor that is exacerbating Europe's pain,' he said. 'But in the main, the problem is that most European nations have retired too much baseload generation, mainly coal of course, and they've pushed too hard on boosting renewable energy. 'It can't do the job, and simply never will unless there is an unthinkable breakthrough in effective and efficient electricity storage.'

The Florida primaries are underway and Mr DeSantis remains the sole Republican candidate. The Democrat race is a hotly contested battle between congressman Charlie Crist, a former Florida governor, and Nikki Fried, the state's Commissioner of Agriculture. ‘Hold my beer’: Anthony Albanese ‘trying to be as popular as Hawke’‘Hold my beer’: Anthony Albanese ‘trying to be as popular as Hawke’Sky News host Chris Kenny says Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has a “bit to live up to as Labor leader”. “I mean he's tried to rewrite history and claim he admired Bob Hawke, when in reality young Albo was a firebrand leftist opponent of Hawke government policies,” he said. Mr Kenny said many politicians “try to be as popular as Hawke” and Mr Albanese’s attempt was sculling a beer at a rock concert. “Maybe Albanese is trying to emulate another politician, maybe he's been watching the attention-grabbing antics of Finland's prime minister,” Mr Kenny said. “Yep, maybe Albo took one look at Finnish PM Sanna Marin and said ‘hold my beer’.”

Political consequence for Morrison’s secret portfolio actions should be ‘severe’Political consequence for Morrison’s secret portfolio actions should be ‘severe’Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles says the political consequence for former prime minister Scott Morrison’s secret portfolio actions should be “severe”. “What Scott Morrison has done is undermine the Westminster system of government, and in the process, he has treated the Australian people with complete contempt,” Mr Marles told Sky News Australia. “To treat the Australian people with contempt in the way that he did, just keeping Australians in the dark, treating his own colleagues with contempt and treating the cabinet with contempt, surely that comes with a significant and a severe political consequence. “And I’m really interested to see from the Liberal Party, from the Opposition, about what they think that’s appropriate to be.”
