East Bay Times Letters to the Editor is Aug. 26, 2022

, which has passed the Legislature and is most likely to be approved by Gov. Gavin Newsom, is most welcome in that it would let people with previous arrests or convictions have their records electronically sealed if they have completed their sentence and kept clear of the judicial system.

It is against natural justice, for sure, to inflict double punishment for a single offense committed. Let us give a chance to the person who had felt deep remorse over the crime he committed to join the mainstream of public life and to turn a new leaf in life — to be of great utility not only to his family but also to society at large.Thank you to Thomas Higgins for his timely analysis of the threat Christian nationalism poses to our society .

Amanda Tyler, the executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, reminds us that practitioners of Christian nationalism “rely heavily on a false narrative of America as a ‘Christian nation.’ This mythical history betrays the work of the framers to create a federal government that would remain neutral when it comes to religion, neither promoting nor denigrating it — a deliberate break with the state-established religions of the colonies.

First, to cover summer surge needs, we’d be better off investing in energy efficiency and conservation. With these efforts, we can exceed the paltry year-round contribution that Diablo makes to the state’s energy mix. Second, what is needed at Diablo is not an extension but, as experts suggest, a safe off-site location for spent fuel storage. To continue to contribute to the problem is potentially dangerous to residents of the Central Coast.

Listen to Anna Novoselov . It’s her world now, and we – you and I – are leaving it in terrible shape. Her generation has every right to be afraid for their future, and angry at us for our selfishness. It is past time for us to do our best to reverse the damage we’re doing, to start using more renewables and reduce, if not eliminate, our use of fossil fuels. Do it for your grandkids.
