I took my 8-year-old grandson Luke to the ballpark on Tuesday not only with the hope of witnessing baseball history but with the certainty that he would learn a lesson in class.
Student-led protest recently shut down a play at Texas Wesleyan written by a Black playwright. Apparently, his artistic sin was being historically accurate with the insults once hurled at southern Black voters in the 1960s. The N-word was used too much. One might wonder if the students had seen. A different time period but the same vile word. That film won a best picture Oscar and was directed by a Black man.
When college students start covering their ears, they start closing their minds. When we are behind the curve, staying even, on a daily basis, is not progress. And there was no mention of using the technology the U.S. Navy has been using since the 1950s. Small nuclear reactors have been here, safe, cost-efficient, quick-builds and reliable but have been ignored, probably because they threaten the fossil fuel industry — the industry whose failure to deliver when needed cost more than 240 Texans their life.
The media has to speak to us in ways that the author espouses. Candidates are not going to buck the trend of toeing the party line; think about what happened to Rep. Liz Cheney. As long as we keep electing those who deceive or lie most effectively, how can anything change?
