1 Adelfa Callejo — Re: “’Godmother’ who fought for change honored — At statue dedication, speakers mark legacy of first Latina lawyer,” Sept. 30 news story....

Readers appreciate the statue to honor Adelfa Callejo; share a good experience at a local tax office; and liked the book by George Dawson called ‘Life is So Good.’

Kudos to the committee and other supporters who persisted in honoring Adelfa Callejo for her tireless work as an advocate for the civil rights of the minority communities in Dallas, especially the Latino community. Her honorary title of “godmother” was well deserved and truly earned by such a diminutive woman who feared no one, and who carried so many on her shoulders.

May her statue serve as an inspiration for our youth who have aspirations to make a difference, just as La Madrina did for many years.— To update my handicap placard, I recently visited the Dallas tax office at LBJ Freeway and Hillcrest Road. I was surprised with the efficiency of this office. Within about 15 minutes in the office, I had the new placard and was on my way home. I was so impressed by the efficiency of the system and the handling of my request. Everyone seemed quite caring.
