As Parliament returns, a Liberal MP has indicated she may cross the floor to support the government’s emissions reduction target of 43 per cent by 2030.

While the Greens had pushed for a 75 per cent reduction by 2030, it wants other issues in the bill to be fixed, such as a"genuine floor" and"making sure it's not a ceiling".

"This bill makes it clear that 43 per cent is our minimum commitment and does not prevent our collective efforts delivering even stronger reductions over the coming decade," he said on Monday."It provides a platform for collaboration to drive down emissions while ensuring reliable energy supplies." The Opposition however has stood firm on not supporting the bill, with leader Peter Dutton arguing the Coalition has a “mandate” from its supporters to not support the target.
