New South Wales Liberal Senator Hollie Hughes has labelled attempts by public health officials to discourage residents from receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine as “totally irresponsible”.

Ms Hughes said the nation should return to normality once every Australian has had the opportunity to receive the jab. “It is getting to the point where we need to be looking at when we can put lockdowns behind us,” she told Sky News host Chris Kenny.“Once everyone’s had the opportunity to have a vaccine, that’s it, everyone else gets to go back to life.

“This ridiculous vaccine hesitancy we’re seeing about AstraZeneca, it is nothing to do with supply, it’s about people not wanting to go and access the AstraZeneca vaccine. “That was not helped by the Queensland Chief Health Officer suggesting people out there not get it, I mean, that sort of behaviour here is totally irresponsible and has contributed to this vaccine hesitancy.”
