A government adviser facing claims he obtained doctored figures used by Energy Minister Angus Taylor to attack Sydney's Lord Mayor will keep his job.

NSW Police has launched Strike Force Garrad to investigate Mr Taylor's role into the scandal after Labor referred the matter last month.

Mr Taylor later apologised to Ms Moore and has conceded that he used incorrect numbers over her travel expenses and carbon emissions, but had continued to deny his office forged a false document. Mr Manuatu, a former president of the Young Liberals, joined Mr Taylor's office following the May election and was formerly a senior aide to Eric Abetz and adviser for Mr Taylor's predecessor in the seat of Hume, Alby Schultz.
