Late last week, Tasmanian Liberal leader Jeremy Rockliff's job suddenly became a lot more complicated. He found out he wouldn't get 15 Liberal MPs in the new parliament. As counting finishes, it's clear that Rockliff will need the support of an independent.

Late last week, Tasmanian Liberal leader Jeremy Rockliff's job suddenly became a lot more complicated.

He has been a long-term opponent of fish farms in north-west waters, recently signed a pledge to end native forest logging, wants an anti-corruption body more like those in Victoria and NSW, calls the Marinus Link undersea interconnector "a dud", and is opposed to the Macquarie Point AFL stadium plan."I'm more than capable with working with the other 30-odd members in parliament to get a better result for Tasmanians," he said.

Mr Rockliff wants to have a signed agreement with the three JLN members, and spoke with them on Saturday. He also spoke with Mr Garland, and earlier met face-to-face with Ms Johnston and Mr O'Byrne.

The Liberals will need a change of approach in the new parliament, having alienated the last crossbench and finished its term of government amid cries of a lack of transparency and integrity.
