'When I got to the hospital and they showed us the MRI, we were just in absolute shock.' 9News
On March 8, Reuben was on the beach paragliding. It was nothing out of the ordinary, he'd done it many times before. But after he landed, Reuben collapsed, suffered a seizure and was rushed to hospital."I got a call to hear him confused and disorientated, saying he thinks he had a crash and his sister was going to take him to hospital.
However, two weeks later, Reuben was diagnosed with stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme . This is the most aggressive kind of brain cancer a person can be diagnosed with. The couple packed up their lives and moved to Canberra, where Megan is from, to get some help with their young children as they tried to navigate their new reality. In August, Reuben began experiencing excruciating headaches and vomiting. He was rushed to The Canberra Hospital and was forced to undergo an emergency craniotomy to remove large amount of the tumour that had grown back.
The challenge now is waiting for comprehensive results from these tests to see what the couple's next step may be. They are hoping to take part in some form of clinical trial for ground-breaking immunotherapy treatments either in Australia, or overseas."What I've learnt is cancer is so personalised, you get chemo for a range of cancer that is named the same thing.
