Commuters using Sydney's $2.9 billion light rail from next weekend will have to wait months before services are fully 'bedded down'
The journey time from Circular Quay to Randwick will be about 50 minutes in the first weeks of operation - about 10 minutes slower than earlier forecasts.
"It will take a number of months to bed down in terms of the head ways [between trams]. People are going to have to get used to getting on and off," Mr Constance said.Loading But he said the government would not have "pressed go live" on regular passenger services starting on Saturday between Randwick and Circular Quay unless it was satisfied the operator had carried out sufficient testing.
"I’m expecting really healthy patronage," he said, citing a more than doubling of passenger numbers on Sydney's inner west light rail over the past five years. While spruiking the benefits of the line, Mr Constance said he did not want to underplay the pain that small businesses and residents along the route had endured. "For the greater good, they have endured a lot," he said.
