The incident occurred just after 5:30 pm in the backyard of Hashem's home on Old Razorback Road in Cawdor, Sydney 's southwest. Hashem and a friend, also in their 40s, were sitting about six meters away from the tree when the lightning bolt struck. The impact sent wood shrapnel flying, causing fatal head injuries to Hashem.
Her friend was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition, suffering from a partially amputated finger and a broken jaw after the wood struck her face and hand. It is believed that several children were present at the gathering at the time of the incident. Hashem owned and operated The Groomery, a cat grooming business, from her southwest Sydney home. Tributes and a GoFundMe campaign have been launched on her business page, revealing that Hashem was a devoted wife and mother of four sons. She tragically died a day before her 44th birthday, leaving her family facing an unimaginable loss. The GoFundMe campaign aims to support her husband and children during this difficult time.
