A 43-year-old woman died and another woman was seriously injured after a lightning strike hit a tree in Cawdor, NSW, on Saturday afternoon. The injured woman, also in her 40s, was hospitalized with a partially amputated finger and a broken jaw. A neighbor reported hearing a 'huge bang' from hundreds of meters away, describing the event as 'coming out of nowhere'.

The injured woman, also in her 40s, was left with a partially amputated finger and a broken jaw. She was taken to Liverpool Hospital, where she remained in a serious but stable condition on Sunday.
Matthew Young, who lives about 300–400 metres away across paddocks in the rural area, said a thunderstorm had not yet arrived when he heard a “huge bang”.Nine News“It was just one big bang, and it was huge. It scared the life out of me.”He said there had been as many as two storms a day lately around Old Razorback Road, where the lightning struck, but conditions did not appear to be as treacherous on Saturday.
