Linda Burney has praised the New South Wales Liberal leader for 'bravely' backing the Voice as she responded to two key points Mark Speakman wanted the Albanese government to address.

Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney has commended the New South Wales Liberal leader for"bravely" showing his support for the Voice to Parliament.

She pointed to Mr Speakman's time as attorney-general in NSW between January 2017 and March 2023 to back her claim the Voice proposal is"legally sound". "So I congratulate Mark Speakman. And he of course is in direct opposition, I guess you could say, to the leader of the Liberal Party federally, one Mr Peter Dutton.

"It is a proposal for a purely advisory body on behalf of Indigenous Australians, who are far and away the most disadvantaged people in our nation," he said. Mr Speakman also offered up advice to the Albanese government amid polls showing the No vote leading the Yes vote nationwide, 46 per cent to 43 per cent.
