Business owners in Lismore have urged the government to provide more support for commercial landlords as a two-speed economy opens up locally between outfits that were able to clean up the flood damage quickly and those that are too cash-strapped to carry out repairs or are still waiting on insurance.
Mr Lake, who owns Hotel Metropole and employs almost 20 staff, used savings and a small business grant of $200,000 to reopen his pub as a bottle shop within days of the March floods, before a staggered opening that used the pub’s top floor while the bottom was being repaired.He has been able to refit his commercial properties and has found tenants immediately.
On Wednesday, NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet privately told commercial landlords and business owners that awould also include support for commercial landlords to get their properties back open for business.
