As Donald Trump ended his State of the Union speech, the room erupted in applause. But behind him, his political nemesis was fuming.
As Mr Trump finished his speech to rapturous applause from the Republicans in Congress, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stood – without clapping – behind his shoulder.
That rather blatant piece of symbolism followed another one at the start of the speech, when Ms Pelosi offered a handshake to Mr Trump and he ignored it.snub came a couple of minutes after Ms Pelosi declined to say it was her "high honour and distinct privilege" to introduce the President to the chamber, as the Speaker usually would.
