MORNING BRIEFING: A paramedic says high speed may have been a factor in a crash in Merrylands West last night which left two people with serious injuries, one of whom was trapped in the wreckage for an hour as emergency crews worked to free him.

A woman is in a critical condition and a man is in a serious condition after two cars collided in what is believed to have been a "very high speed" crash in Sydney's west overnight.

Stella Lo, 70, became separated from the group between 11:15am and midday while walking in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Prime Minister Scott Morrison yesterday described NSW's test-and-trace strategy as the "gold standard" in COVID-19 suppression. "If people don't do the right thing, and the beach has become too crowded then we'll have to look at how we manage those numbers," she said.A Western Sydney school will re-open this morning after health authorities found a student who had initially tested positive to COVID-19 does not have the disease.
