MORNING BRIEFING: The NSW Government is appealing to start-ups and businesses for help keeping women stay safer on public transport, while Sydney residents can now access funding for storm damage.

The blanket of smoke haze across parts of New South Wales has eased overnight, having moved offshore up to 400 kilometres across the Tasman Sea.

Smoke haze yesterday caused 88 cancellations of domestic arrivals and departures from Sydney Airport, which was down to operating one runway.More than 100 bushfires continue to burn across New South Wales, with the state's entire east coast facing very high fire danger today. Greg Allan from the Rural Fire Service says firefighters are working hard to contain the large number of blazes.
