One city centre area has much to offer with its food, drink and culture
A friendly and welcoming area, the hub is home to some of the city’s best bars, restaurants and theatres, and is residence to a close-knit community of locals, which all makes the place feel like its very own town. It can also claim both of our impressive cathedrals.
The area has a bustling food and drink scene, with many much-loved venues who look out for each other and create a real sense of community. No matter what kind of night you're looking for, you're likely to find it here. "We've had all sorts of people visit over the years: musicians, poets, actors and, of course, those from the Universities. Many different cultures and nationalities make up the Georgian Quarter and this makes it very interesting, seeing how different people have lived their lives.
Both restaurants serve prix fixe and a la carte selections, with the former also offering a tasting menu. And if neither of them tickle your fancy, head down to Roski on Rodney Street, and sample Anton Piotrowski's seasonal creations.Theatre-goers and music lovers, along with those who practise the arts, often frequent the Georgian Quarter. Performing arts school, LIPA, sits at one end of Hope Street, while the Everyman Theatre sits at the other.
Those looking for a bite to eat before watching a show should take a stroll up Catherine Street to the Blackburne Arms. The intimate gastropub, adored by locals, serves a pre-theatre menu from 4-7pm with two courses for £14.95 and three courses for £17.95. They also hold an entertaining pub quiz every Monday at 8pm.
Paddy Mills said: “The sense of community among independent businesses in the area is amazing and we are working closely with local pubs to create the ‘Georgian Quarter Crawl’.
