Luke Sayers has stepped down as Carlton president despite being cleared by the AFL following an investigation into a lewd photo posted from his personal X account. The graphic image of a penis was deleted five minutes after being uploaded. A senior female executive from a club sponsor had been tagged in the post. “Sorry my account has been hacked — please ignore all posts,” a subsequent post read before the account was deactivated.
” In a separate statement issued by Sayers’ camp, he said the past two weeks “have been very tough for everyone who has been impacted”. “I did not post the image, either deliberately or accidentally,” he wrote. “I fully cooperated with an independent inquiry by the AFL which concluded that access to my X account was compromised. “I am aware of speculation that the naming of another person in the post explains why it happened. It does not, and that narrative is wrong.
