Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi says “madness has taken hold in this country”.

Mr Bernardi's comments come in light of the unrelenting state border closure around the country, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrew's extension of the state of disaster, and an the recent confirmation the economy is in recession. Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed on Wednesday Victoria’s state of disaster will be extended and brought into line with the state of emergency but warned the slated September 13 end date didn't necessarily mean either emergency declarations would come off.

Additionally, on Wednesday it was revealed Australia’s economy was officially in recession after the June quarter data revealed the country’s GDP had shrunk by seven per cent due to the COVID crisis, representing an annual decline of 6.3 per cent. “You should be cranky because madness has taken hold here," Mr Bernardi told Sky News host Paul Murray. “The people of Victoria should be cranky, the people of South Australia, all around the country.
