Retired Australian swimmer James Magnussen has announced he is engaged to his partner Rose McEvoy.
Magnussen shared a video of the proposal to his Instagram account on Thursday, showing the pair standing on a wooden dock in a coastal location in Europe .
The couple were being directed where to stand to take a photo together before Magnussen got down on one knee and produced a ring.“Will you marry me?” the star swimmer can be heard saying, before McEvoy nearly collapsed with joy, fighting to hold back tears. “For the first time in my life, I was speechless. You can assume it’s a YES @james.magnussen. I love you more than words can describe,” McEvoy captioned the shared post.“Congrats you love birds!!!” Life Uncut co-host Brittany Hockley wrote.
The couple have spent nearly a decade together, first getting together in 2014, according to the Daily Telegraph.‘Matty & The Missile’ podcast episodesThe episodes had plenty of memorable moments with Magnussen and Johns dissecting the big sporting moments from each day. Magnussen raised some concerns about the conditions in the Olympic village, pointing out how some athletes could be impacted by having to sleep on theHe told Johns from Paris in the first few days of the Games: “There will be many athletes across the two weeks of competition who miss out on a medal… because they’re unsettled by this new environment.”
“We haven’t seen this at an Olympic games before. We haven’t had this amount of complaints about a village in Olympics history.”
