David and Victoria Beckham have officially attended their first state banquet at Buckingham Palace to honour the visiting Emir of Qatar.
officially welcomed His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al ThaniThe Beckhams were seated apart during the dinner, as is custom, with David seated prominently between Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the owner of his old football club Paris Saint-Germain.
Leaked emails from 2017 revealed Beckham’s disappointment at continually being snubbed for a knighthood after earlier earning an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II in 2003. Reportedly, Beckham’s financial dealings abroad and alleged tax avoidance have hindered his chances of securing the knighthood. Beckham could finally be honoured if he increases his philanthropy work with the King's Trust"I think he has to put some more work into the King's Trust, and I think he'll be seen many more times with the King and William before that honour comes his way," he said.
Knighthoods are typically announced twice a year via the King’s Birthdays Honours list in June or the New Year’s Honours list in December.
