A special Newspoll published on Tuesday morning says an overwhelming majority of Australians would like to see more cost-of-living relief. Over 80 per cent of Australians would like to see energy bill relief and a cut to the fuel excise. Around 75 per cent would like the government to cut back on their spending and want tax cuts.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has not indicated there will be any big cash splash on the way to ease the cost of living. He has pointed out existing measures like cheaper medicines and the energy bill relief which came into effect on July 1. The Albanese government hopes these measures will have flow on impacts which will be felt by Australians as pressure grows on the government to extend this relief to everyday Australians.
