Teenager was found carrying a crossbow within castle grounds on Christmas Day, police say
Police say the man who broke into the grounds of Windsor Castle on Christmas Day has been detained under the Mental Health Act and had a crossbow when challenged by police.
The royal family were told of the break-in, with officials saying there was no danger to the royals and that security protections had worked as the suspect was spotted and quickly detained. The man was later assessed as being severely mentally ill. The Met said: “The man was taken into custody and has undergone a mental health assessment – he has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and remains in the care of medical professionals.
As well as armed police patrols, the perimeter is covered by CCTV and other security measures. Police say the suspect did not enter any buildings in the castle grounds.
