A 21-year-old man has suffered life-threatening injuries after being punched during a fight in Broadbeach early this morning.

The 21-year-old man from NSW was walking along a main street in Broadbeach, the suburb next to the Schoolies hub of Surfers Paradise, at about 2.40am when he became involved in a verbal altercation with a group of men and women.

The group of about six or seven people then followed the man, according to Queensland Police, before a fight broke out and the 21-year-old was punched and fell to the ground, hitting his head. He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is the only person who was hurt in the fight.

Police established a crime scene at the corner of Margaret Ave and Surf Parade and a number of people are currently assisting police with their investigation.trending in national
