A 36-year-old man is charged over the alleged sexual assault of a woman sleeping inside her Katherine home on Saturday afternoon.
A 36-year-old man has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a 44-year-old woman while she was asleep in her Katherine home on Saturday afternoon.The man was charged with one count of sexual intercourse without consentA NT Police spokeswoman said officers arrested the man in the "early hours of Sunday morning" in Katherine's town centre.
"Sometime between 3:00pm and 4:00pm …, the man allegedly assaulted the woman as she was sleeping inside her residence," police said in a statement.Police said the man and woman knew each other but did not give further detail.NT Police said he would appear in Katherine Local Court today. Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the NT has the highest rate of sexual assaults in the nation.
In 2018, there were 145.6 reports of sexual assault to the NT Police per 100,000 people — higher than every other state and territory.Posted
