A man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting another man in the leg in Sydney's west last week, in what police believe was a targeted incident
The man allegedly fired a single shot into Mr Atkinson's leg, causing him to bleed to death.
A friend of Mr Atkinson who was at the home at the time of the shooting was unable to detain the gunman, who fled in a grey or white utility van that was being driven by another person, police said last week. The 28-year-old man attended Granville Police Station on Monday, after a warrant for his arrest was issued on Friday. He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday.
While the victim was known to police, he is not believed to have links to organised crime or outlaw motorcycle gangs. "At this point, we are treating it as a targeted shooting. We do believe the gunman and the deceased may have known each other," Cumberland police area commander Acting Superintendent Despa Fitzgerald said last Tuesday.
