Coronavirus cancellations are forcing travellers to make alternative arrangements, with one man deciding to drive more than 3,000 kilometres home from Darwin to Queensland.

"I'm planning to get a hire car at 2 o'clock and I'm just heading off towards the Queensland border, and then on [to Bundaberg]."Breaking down the latest news and research to understand how the world is living through an epidemic, this is the ABC's Coronacast podcast.Under Northern Territory regulations, anyone entering the NT must undergo two weeks of forced quarantine at their own expense.

But for those moving through the Territory to reach another state — as is the case for Mr Fox — they must abide by strict rules, including staying on main roads, not visiting remote communities and only stopping for fuel or rest. Once he reaches the Queensland border, Mr Fox will have to show a border entry pass, which he has already organised."So if plans don't work, you have just got to be flexible and just go to the next step."For others caught up in the coronavirus clampdown, flexibility has not been an option.

Michael Cutajar, who flew from East Timor to Darwin on March 28, was one of the first Australians forced into hotel quarantine when tighter restrictions came into effect for international arrivals.
