A man fleeing police over family violence matters has died at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s southeast on Friday afternoon. The 36-year-old was found with an edged weapon and self-inflicted injuries inside a women’s toilet cubicle and was tasered when he threatened officers, Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas said.

Police provided first aid until an ambulance arrived and paramedics could move him to a park at the back of the Lynbrook Village Shopping Centre. He died from his injuries while waiting for Air Ambulance. “The post mortem examination will be done and that will occur and we’ll be in a better position to understand what has caused his death,” Thomas said.
