The dingo on K'gari made a 'gut-wrenching, distressing noise' before bleeding to death, a Queensland court has heard. A 57-year-old man shot the dingo with a spear gun and has been fined $5,000.

A man has pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a dingo with a spear gun on K'gari .A Queensland court has heard a dying dingo let out a "gut-wrenching, distressing noise" before bleeding to death from a spear gun wound on K'gari earlier this year.

The man's lawyer, Mitch Jamieson, told the court that a group of dingoes was seen near the campground throughout the day, which was a "constant stressor" for Mr Kirkcaldy.Later that night, after consuming some alcohol, Mr Kirkcaldy decided to "startle or spook" the dingoes with his spear gun, Mr Jamieson said.

" it hit with such ferocity and such power, it penetrated right through the animal and caused its demise." Lawyer for the Department of Environment and Science, Vivian Rossi-Price, told the court that since Mr Kirkcaldy had been a spearfisher for 30 years he should have easily foreseen the consequences of his "highly reckless" actions.
